Testimonials

I am very pleased with the work that the staff at TRAC is doing with my son. He started working with Mrs. Holmes when he was in kindergarten in 2003. He was going to be retained because he was considered a non-reader and continued to struggle. I tried other tutoring places but they did not help him. It was when he met Mrs. Holmes that he turned around. He passed kindergarten and has been doing very well since. He continues to work in the Positive Directions' program. He is now in the 5th grade. I wish the program went to the 12th grade. The activities are very creative and helps him remember topics and skills. He really likes it at the Center. I think it is because of the small groups, the one-on-one help he gets and the hands on learning.
Thank you,

My granddaughter started working with Mrs. Holmes when she was in the second grade in 2004. She was in danger of repeating her grade. She was having trouble with reading comprehension. She is now in the fifth grade. I can see the growth she has made over the three years she has worked with Mrs. Holmes and the TRAC staff. I am a retired educator and can see the benefits of my granddaughter working in the program at TRAC Enrichment Center. They follow the standard course of study and the Pitt county school's pacing guide for skills correlation. She received hands-on instruction in a small group and one-on-one environment grade level specific. She has not experienced the great struggles she was having prior to working with Mrs. Holmes and the staff at TRAC. I believe they have a special talent when it comes to working with at-risk children and finding a way to help them be successful in the school environment and with academic work.
Sincerely,

I can not say enough about the role TRAC has played in helping my 10 year old daughter feel successful. She has always struggled with reading and evaluations did not diagnose her with a learning disability, she struggles. She had a difficult time at school particularly with reading comprehension and orally reading in front of classmates. TRAC has focused not only on improving her confidence in reading, but also writing performance. This year she took the IOWA standardized test and performed in the 50% for reading comprehension and last year was in the 25%. Equally, if not more important, TRAC has allowed my daughter to emerge as a leader. She has become a role model to her peers. It is truly a beyond-school tutoring program and not a babysitting option. They set goals for the children and have a structured curriculum designed to help every child succeed.

My 7 year old son who is blind and has developmental challenges is currently in second grade in a mainstream classroom started TRAC during his first semester in first grade. At that time he struggled in reading and writing and it was questionable whether he could remain in a regular classroom. He was resourced for part of the school day. The staff at TRAC gave him the individual attention that he needed and worked hard with him in reading and writing skills among many other activities. He greatly improved his social skills, which is a weak area for him as well. The staff went the extra mile to get his material in a format he could work with since he needed a combination of Braille and large print. Before I knew it, he went from his DRA level 2 in reading to a level 8 by the end of the first semester. At the end of the year, his DRA level was 14. He attended the summer program at TRAC for 2006 and continues in the program. For the first time he received "E"(exceeds expectations) on his 9 weeks progress in reading. He is no longer pulled out to go to resource. My 5 year old son is also blind and this is his second year at TRAC. He is doing extremely well and is able to keep up with his peers due to the enrichment he receives at TRAC. I am fortunate to have my children at TRAC. I wish all children who needed a program like TRAC could attend. I thank them for the wonderful work they do.
